In 1904, a European craftsman began supplying door locks for Hollywood
movie sets. The company was called Weiser and the locks were custom
made for each new motion picture according to the set designer's specifications.
From these unlikely beginnings, Weiser Lock started manufacturing door
locks for California residences. By the 1950's, their high quality products
had become known and specified by builders throughout the country. In
1954 Weiser opened a factory in Burnaby, British Columbia, and before
too long, Weiser became the top selling brand in Canada.
In 1967, Weiser Lock was purchased by Norris Industries, Inc. which
merged with Masco Building Products Corporation in 1985. Weiser Lock
was purchased by The Black & Decker Corporation on October 1st,
2003. Headquartered in Towson, Md., Black & Decker is a leading
global manufacturer and marketer of power tools and accessories, hardware
and home improvement products, and technology-based fastening systems.
